The Inn had always been one of my favorite restaurants in Bucks, but a recent visit left me wondering what has happened to this lovely dining spot. The service was spotty, the food was terrible and uneven - cold when it should have been hot, not as ordered, bland, and the steak ordered by a friend arrived so cold at center she thought it had been frozen. When it was returned after a request to reheat, it was served overdone and crisp. I only hope management begins to address some of these issues before it is too late to repair!

I've been going to Phillip's Mill for Valentine's Day dinner for several years now, and it's always a nice experience. The food is amazing. We always order escargot for an appetizer- I've never had it better anywhere else. I usually splurge on surf n' turf or lamb chops, etc. for my entree. The scallops here are excellent too. The restaurant itself has plenty of old charm, candlelit and romantic. The last two times we got stuck out on the enclosed porch, which is chillier and quiet enough that whoever else it out there with you, you will definitely be hearing each other's conversations. Last year my boyfriend and I were lucky enough to be seated five feet away from an elderly couple giggling and making out- yes, I'm serious- all through dinner. We were too shocked to say anything at the time, but looking back I wish I'd asked them to tone it down a bit for the sake of other's dining there too. C'est la vie. The waitstaff is knowledgeable, courteous, and experienced. They have been able to recommend what dishes go well together, what would go well with the wine we brought (its BYOB), and just talk about the history of the restaurant and inn. Overall, it's a very romantic, haunting little place with a lot of character. I'd like to go back in the warmer months to check out the outdoor dining patio, which I've heard from my parents is lovely.

Nice restaurant in what used to be an old mill. The food was delicious. I had the filet of beef with blue cheese butter and it was as good as it sounded. Service was personable and not snobby. The only thing that detracted from the dinner was that the room was damn cold! We were seated in the sun room area of the restaurant off the main room. There was a small fireplace that did nothing to warm the room against the freezing February temperature. We had to wear our coats the whole time, as did everyone else in the room. If eating here in the winter request the main dining room. It was much warmer.

This was the first time we had been to this restaurant in a few years. It used to be one of our favorites - not anymore. The experience was one of the worst we'd ever had. The waitress was terrible - she didn't know the menu at all. Once our water glasses were finally filled, they never again saw a water pitcher. The bread they put on the table were left over reheated kaiser rolls, and the food was mediocre at best. My mother had steak and it was very tough. What a shame.

Atmosphere and food are solid 4 stars, however service is not refined or polished and detracts from the experience. Dined here for Christmas Eve. Have been here before and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Was surprised to not see a special holiday menu. Server took at least 10 minutes to serve us water and open our wine - we had to ask her to open wine after she explained the additions for the night (1 soup, 1 dish). Server stumbled through the additions as well as the regular menu offerings, for our table as well as the neighboring ones. My husband ordered the poisson trio (as it is written on the menu in French) and she said "the what? I don't know any French". At a high end french restaurant no less. Service was efficient, they did not explain their typical 5 vegetable sides as they did during the summer. A neighboring table complimented the duck and asked how it was prepared, the answer, I kid you not, was "I think in the oven". Yikes. While these were relatively minor infractions, they were incongruent with the atmosphere and food. However, a much more blatant lack of professionalism took place as the 2 servers with loud voices discussed - in a candlelit room with 6 tables and a distinctively romantic air - how they would allocate the tables to the next incoming parties of 3 and 5 and about how another table changed from 2 to 3 people. I made eye contact with one of the servers to politely remind them they were distracting the diners hoping for a special meal. They went on to discuss moving chairs as well as handling incoming reservations. Not the type of details I would expect to hear or be exposed to at this type of establishment. This also led to a significant delay in getting our check, which ironically would have helped their cause. Overall the food is very good but the unprofessional service detracts from the experience. We will be likely to choose from the various neighboring establishments next time.

We just went to the restaurant for the 3rd time last night. It definitely was not the service that made up come back a 3rd time but the food. It is absolutely outstanding! We have never had anything even mediocre at this place. With your entree, you get 5 sides and they are always all amazing. We would not say the service was rude but very impersonal, until yesterday. We got a fairly new server, Alex who also grows most of the fruits and vegetables for the restaurant. He is one of the best servers we have ever had, anywhere. He was very caring, attentive and went above and beyond to make my father-in-law's birthday dinner a great one. If you go, just make sure it is Saturday to Wednesday and ask for Alex (he is off Thursday and Friday).

Consistently excellent and my go to restaurant for over 30 years. Being a BYOB a short stop at Phillips in Stockton and you're already $20 ahead of the game. The veggies are always amazing. Ambience is normally stellar except on a busy Summer weekend when the weather forces them to pack you in with the lost outside seating. No credit cards - cash or checks. Prices reasonable, especially considering quality and setting. Best of New Hope. Reservation a must on weekends. Closed in January. Wished they mix up the menu more often so I could go more often. Must go to place for romance, cuisine and atmosphere. My first date place a dozen times. The last one has now lasted 26 years!

What a cozy, delightful experience. Had a reservation for 4 tonight and dined on the intimate, private patio. Nothing to distract us from pleasant conversation, fresh air, and yummy food. Service was very good and I have to give our server some major props. He had such enthusiasm for the specials, for what we ordered, and for each dish he brought to our table. This is rare, and something I always really appreciate. What else can I say? Everyone at the table loved their dish (I personally had the filet of beef with blue cheese butter and it was absolutely superb). Highly recommend if you want to get away from the bustle of the main strip in New Hope and dine in a rustic, country-style historic house.

We celebrated my partner's Dan birthday at this lovely restaurant. We sat outside in the garden and had beautiful views of the landscape and gardens. Appetizers and food were specular. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. Would definately go back again. Credit cards not accepted so bring cash or your checkbook.

We've stayed numerous times but dined either in town or in Lambertville and thought this time we would try the restaurant. What a horrible dining experience. We even invited several of our close friends to join us but we were so embarrassed by how we were treated that we will, unfortunately, never stay again. We were a large group and they had us seated at 3 separate tables on the enclosed patio. Of course we asked if there was one long table but were told no. The hostess even argued with us saying she had told us we wouldn't be seated together at the time we made the reservation (untrue). Imagine hosting friends for dinner but then being seated at different tables? Fortunately my persistent boyfriend was able to get them to agree to put the 3 round tables together (how hard was that to come up with, really?). As soon as we sat down we were greeted by Jenna, our surly waitress who loudly and abruptly told us because we insisted on putting the tables together there wasn't enough room for her to serve us properly and we would have to pass each other's plates down. Not a big deal but the way she said it and the number of times she sighed loudly made it evident we were unwelcome. She barked the specials at us, passed down 3 baskets of bread (forget about asking for more or even water refills) and then disappeared for what was an unusually long time. The food was very good which makes writing this review all the more bittersweet. The joke was ultimately on us though because we realized Jenna didn't care whether she was nice or not - her 20% gratuity was baked into the bill. There are so many other choices in New Hope and nearby Lambertville - restaurants that actually value its customers and whose staff is trained properly - why subject yourself and part with your hard earned money at a lowbrow establishment like this?

Great meal and dining experience from reservation to desert. Called very late on Sat about availability for that night and were able to get us in. Upon arrival it was noticeably busy but we were never overwhelmed by it. We were seated immediately and the service was prompt and expert. It's a BYOB and even our wine was immediately chilled. We had the crab cake remoulade to start. It was crispy outside and moist and flavorful inside. Next were the salads. I had the poached leek salad. It was light and crisp but had a little too much vinaigrette. My girlfriend had the house salad which was fresh and was accompanied with a decent house dressing. For the main entree, I had the buffalo stew special which was savory and tender. She had the pork tenderloins with a great fig cream sauce. Both plates were also visually appealing as they had lots of vivid color. Service and ambiance were excellent. This is a great romantic dinner spot for those that find themselves in the New Hope area. It is cash only and BYOB so come prepared. There are several wineries in the area which you can visit during the day and pick up a bottle of wine. It might be worth checking out the menu online in case you want some pairing ideas.

The food was excellent! The interior seating was a little too dark, but air conditioned and comfortable. The outdoor seating was quaint and cozy. Too bad it was so hot and humid. Service was quite good and we weren't rushed. Prices were very reasonable and portion sizes were good. All-in-all we had a great time and would not hesitate to return and bring friends.

So I stayed at this place because my aunt was getting married here and wanted me to stay overnight to help in the morning. Instead of a nice room, I was shlubbed upstairs to a room that was so stuffy and musty I thought the last occupant was Ben Franklin. Plus our tub faucet dripped and there were a million of those stink bugs near the door. Also there was no way to really wash in the leaky tub because the faucet was so close to the lip of the tub. Awesome. The food was excellent but the servers were beyond rude. I guess they think that the french food tastes better if they act like French snobs. I mean you can't even turn to say excuse me after you bump me? Oh and the owner of the establishment had the gall to complain to me about how the bride was being too needy on her wedding day. The place gets one star for food only. But the musty smell/bugs and the rude staff and the even worse attitudes of the owner make this a place I'll never go to again. ever.

I haven't been to many bnb's, but I can't help but think this is one of the good ones. The rooms are cute and cozy. The beds are comfy, and the overall vibe is super relaxed and private. It's not fancy by any means, but you feel pampered and something about it had a classy Hemingway feel to it. Go with rooms 1 or 5 if you like a clawfoot bathtub. The restaurant is also amazing, delicious fine dining in a cozy and romantic setting and the staff are very old school/friendly. Take your desert in front of the fireplace for bonus romance. BYOB but you definitely appreciate it when you see the check!

The food here was excellent!!....perfectly prepared....portions were good...light sauces....baked brie was great, as was the pork loin and duck dishes.... BUT the parking was awful-not enough spots...and the sign outside is so weathered, we drove passed the place twice.....BUT the food here was excellent... the dining room was so dark (NO electric lights at all-just candles!) we had to use our phone/flashlight to read the menu....BUT the food is excellent....cash/check only and its BYOB...BUT the food is excellent....We couldn't order our appetizer first, and ask the waitress to come back to take our entrée choices-she had to have the whole order go in at once...BUT the food is excellent. If you're tolerant of all the above, you'll have a delicious meal. One of the best I've had in a very long time!!

The Inn is an older establishment that exudes Bucks County charm the second you drive up. It is an old mill with the flag stone walls, wooden floors, adorable antiques in every room that makes you feel very cozy. You can see how the menu and the atmosphere can impress upon you "oh, this is a fancy restaurant." However, I prefer restaurants that are unpretentious and just serve good food, which is where Phillips Mill seriously misses the mark. We took my mother in law here for Mother's day because she has so many happy memories of this restaurant. On two separate occasions we had enjoyed decent meals so it was a natural choice for Mother's day. Overall, the food was mediocre and the service was pretty lacking so I was pretty disappointed. My main issues were with the menu and the way it was presented. A "fancy" restaurant relies on its servers to . . . well. . . KNOW what is on the menu. It shouldn't be too hard, after all the menu is patterned after "classic" French cuisine that was en vogue about 50 years ago. Apparently each entree comes with the EXACT SAME SIDE VEGGIES, just like your finest banquet halls or country clubs: a roasted potato, a few green beans, carrot puree, sliced squash, roasted tomato stuffed with breadcrumbs. I found this out because the menu said "ask your server about the vegetable of the day" on the ONLY vegetarian option. She told me in a very exasperated tone that "every dish has the same side vegetables" at first. Then when I pointed out what dish I was referring to she also was at a loss for words, saying she didn't really know what was in it, and if I "REALLY" wanted to know she'd go check with the chef. So. . . my husband got the pork loin, my mother in law got the chicken and I got the veggie plate. Aside from the above mentioned "side veggies" the veggie plate had: spinach, undercooked eggplant, a 1/4 of a roasted red pepper, and a 3 inch portabello mushroom cap. To be fair, my mother in law loved her meal, my husband's pork was pretty tasty, and the remainder of my vegetables were decently cooked and seasoned. If you feel like going, be forewarned. You will be paying for a quaint historic inn meal that will be good but not amazing or overly imaginative. It will be heavy. If you have a food allergy or are vegetarian I would NOT wander in here lightly, you are incredibly limited. If you have someone who just wants to eat "well" and is fine with this type of menu, it's not a bad choice. Obviously, I'm not headed back here any time voluntarily.

I wish I could give them Negative stars. Worst dining experience EVER!! We made reservation at 8:00pm on Friday night. When we got them there were a few other groups of ppl waiting and NO host or hostess nor anyone came to talk us!! The waitresses were rushing around and no one cared to stop and take care us. We were just standing there for 10 mins until a waitress had us sit down--- then 20 mins passed NO ONE even came to serve us water. We were been totally ignored. In the end we just left after wasting 30 mins at the terrible restaurant. Funny thing we called back after we left just to let them know we were very unhappy with the service and had to leave, the waitress didn't even notice we left, yelling on the phone I'm coming with your water! We went to Marsha Brown in the end and had a wonderful experience there!

We always went to the Inn at Philip's Mill for special occasions or to give out-of-towners a Buck's County experience. While the décor is warm and inviting, the food offerings are really, really tired. The bread served to us tasted like supermarket bread baked several weeks before. My tuna was obviously frozen and was a major disappointment. The only reason I did not give it one star was that their soups are still good. We did not order dessert as I have seen better looking desserts in a school cafeteria. It is a shame that this restaurant has lost its soul. PS: both times we were there recently, the audio speakers had a problem. The music was interrupted by a horrible, repeating sound. In both cases, we spoke up for the other annoyed diners suggesting that they adjust or turn off the music. We received the same answer twice: the speakers have a problem. You think?? We suggested that they turn off the music and they did. Did I mention that 3 months had lapsed between our visits? New speakers are pretty cheap these days.

This place is nothing short of amazing. The food was outrageously good, steaks cooked perfectly, great service, tasty crab cakes with NO filler! Decadent desserts! And it is byob. The atmosphere is very quiet, romantic and it is in a historical building. I love this place, we will definitely be back! We had a great anniversary dinner here!

Monday 10/20 5:30 pm for 2 - We had 2 very good meals ... beef filet and veal medallions both prepared as requested. bread was ok, but obviously not baked in house. our service was just fine, food was served rather quickly to our surprise. 1 appt, 2 meals, 1 dessert plus tip = $100

We went here the Saturday after Valentine's Day and had a wonderful experience. The inn was very cozy and PACKED, which I was not expecting. Thankfully we only had to wait a few minutes before being seated. The room was dark and candle lit, very romantic. The fire was going which was also a nice touch. We both started off with a lobster bisque which was good, I wouldn't say extraordinary though. Then we had a terrine which was good, but again, I think next time I will order the escargot. The terrine was cold (intentionally) and I was in the mood for something warm and satisfying. The entrees were the best part of the meal. I had the pork tenderloin with the mission fig cream and my boyfriend had the beef with the blue cheese butter. Everything was perfectly cooked, and I absolutely loved the variety of vegetables. I would love to get my hands on their sweet potato recipe, it was like nothing I've ever had before! I could have eaten a whole bowl of it. We will definitely be back for another romantic holiday.

I came here with a group of lady friends for a bridal shower dinner. The setting is very romantic, but also very dark, which made conversation difficult at times. It is a beautiful historic building. Overall, our biggest criticism was about the service. We asked for bread numerous times, and it did not arrive until almost an hour into dinner. The same can be said for water, and when we were ready to order, we had to wait some more. We brought our own bottles of wine, which the servers somehow misplaced or served to another table. The waiter seemed thrown off by some simple requests, such as when we asked him to repeat the specials of the day. He was also rattled when telling us the desserts. I would recommend this restaurant for its historic charm. The food was good, but the service left something to be desired.

I was compelled to write a review after reading some of the misleading bad reviews. I've lived in the area and have eaten at just about every establishment over the past two years. This is one of the best, hands down. The food here is excellent. It's real French dining. The only thing comparable is Brian's in Lambertville. The ambiance here cannot be beat. Small, intimate feel in this small Inn gives it real charm. It is a perfect date location. In response to the few bad reviews I read here, on behalf of the real foodies who rely on yelp, I must tell you ladies that the Inn at Phillips Mill IS NOT the Olive Garden. If you are looking for a place to accommodate a large party and politely tip toe around while you chuckle with your middle-age gal pals over some White Zinfandel, this is not it.

Holiday dinner was delightful last night. We were seated upstairs in front of a fire - a very intimate setting. We started with the onion au gratin soup special which was perfectly balanced. Next, we had crab cakes which were delicious & crispy on the outside, however, they were served not hot but warm. For entree, my wife had the lamb chops, which were perfectly done & tasted fantastic. I had the scallops pan seared to perfection. Probably the best I have ever had. Service was fast tempo & very courteous. If you are looking for fine dinning at an out-of-the-way, romantic place with historic, rustic charm in the country, this is the place. BYOB too!!

The Inn at Phillip's Mill is the antithesis of hip, and that is often a good thing. Nestled in scenic New Hope, it offers a dining experience that is traditional and solid. The restaurant appears to be in a historic house, complete with stone exterior and exposed beams. When we arrived they had two wood fired fireplaces running, one of which sits in a living room complete with couches for lounging with a drink. Ambiance is outstanding. Service was prompt, informed, and courteous. While not lofty fine dining, all our food was very good and priced appropriately. They are BYOB, so be sure to bring your favorite wine. There is plenty of off street parking next to the restaurant. If you don't mind turning your clocks back about 250 years, you will find one of the most charming, warm, and historic dining venues in the region. Now if we could only do something about those damn British...

Okay, I have never eaten here but was always curious and thought it looked like a delightful place... Today, my husband had a chance to stop in. I just wanted to see the interior, ask about menu, cocktails etc. BUT! I was soooo turned off by the ungracious, rude, unfriendly, reception, I don't think I will ever return. Look I can extend grace to a frazzled, overwhelmed staff....THE PLACE WAS EMPTY!!! The hostess was horrendous to my husband and I. No welcome, no smile...she was surly! Did I mention the place was EMPTY!!! She even answered the phone while we were there and was just as nasty! If the owner is reading this FIRE THIS WOMAN! She is ruining your business. Back in 2003, we stayed at the Woolverton Inn (lovely) but even then we were told they aren't very nice at The Inn at Phillips Mill. They were absolutely right!!!

Food was just OK. Filets ordered medium well were delivered medium rare . . .even after being advised by the server to 'order up in doneness because the French undercook'. Servers were walking by, but never stopped by our table to open the wine, deliver the bread, pour us water, clear our plates. Given the check without being offered coffee. With the price of an appetizer, salad, entree and desert close to $100 per head, I think the service should match. Won't go again.

We've been here a half-dozen times over the last few years, and we had dinner with my Sister-in-Law's family here last night. The food is good and the location is very nice--an old stone mill along a stream out in the sticks. This evening we were seated at a table in the lounge area. It was quiet and we were the only ones in that part of the restaurant, but it was so dark I could barely read my menu. They could use a couple of more light sconces in the room. The seating aside, as usual, the food was very solid and the service dependable. My lamb chops were grilled medium rare as ordered, and the crunchy herb coating offered an interesting counter to the tender meat. The sides were roasted beets, squash, a potato gratin and carrot puree. The gratin and puree were super. My wife loved her poached salmon, and the veal medallions and sea scallops were as good as the times I've had them in the past. The only mistake I made on the night was ordering the appetizer special of poached bay scallop and calimari. It turned out to be a cerviche-like cocktail. My wife loved hers, but I'm not a big cerviche fan and would rather have had the mushroom soup or brie that my in-laws enjoyed.

We decided to catch the end of Restaurant week last night. We tried a few places on the list that we know are great, and they were all booked. I have driven by this place many times and always thought it would be great. We were able to get a table last minute. Our table had some people order off the $29.95 menu. The entre was cold but the plate scorching hot. Hmm! sounds like an assembly line kitchen. I ordered off the main menu and both 1st and second course were not what I expected . Both in taste and presentation. To top it off the waitress was cold and bordered on rude. As we were leaving I passed someone who appeared to be a manager and said a polite good night, and in return got a rude look and nasty reply. Folks... This is not a class act, nor a gourmet quality restaurant. I advise you save your money

So, I was extremely excited after reading both the menu and other Yelp reviews. Let me start off by saying the ambiance and food here is fantastic. My wife and I completely enjoyed every single perfectly cooked bite of our meals. However, we felt very put off by both the hostess and servers. The hostess was borderline rude. I'm not sure if she is new or a long term disgruntled employee, but an attitude adjustment is definitely in order. When I walk in the beautiful quaint front door, I expect a smile. Not the cold shoulder. The servers were attentive and that's about where it stops. I was initially served water in a glass covered in lipstick. Not a problem. Stuff happens. When I asked for a new glass I was given a new glass and that was that. No apology. No small talk. No personality. I felt like we were dealing with robots all evening. In closing, this place executes quaint, masterfully prepared meals and a homey warm feeling and atmosphere. I felt like the staff should be projecting these ideas and feeling. I will be back as the lamb chops and duck confit are to die for!

we made a reservaton for 530pm to avoid having to wait like the last visit. we were refused to be able to sit where we requested., we were the first customers there, place was empty. waitstaff not friendly but not rude. a table of 6 had complained that the ceiling was leaking on their table, they were then squeezed in right next to us,we had difficulty getting out of our table, whilst the entire restaurant was empty. we waited one hour for our entree, my steak was very very chewy, i could only eat half of it because i got tired of chewing. embarrassing having to keep taking grizzle out of my mouth. it felt like this restaurant is to please the workers not the customers. sadly this will be our last visit. at these prices the food should be superb!

First night of New Hope and Lambertville Restaurant Week and they should've done much better. Sat quickly but beyond that nothing much more impressed us. Slooooow service throughout the evening. Salad was a bit too tart, the black bean soup was about equal to canned. The beef was way undercooked (although they didn't, and we forgot to, ask about our preferred done-ness) but moreover the veggies were stone cold and the pork loin was thick but medium dry with fatty undercooked bacon wrapped tightly round. We sent the beef/veggie back and it returned warmed with gravy... ugh, and the veggies were not much more that quick steamed again. No real meaningful apology and certainly no accommodation for the less-than-stellar experience. We tipped well, but that was out of habit. One star for good chocolate mousse and one star for a romantic setting and warm fire on the "porch"... but everything lost its luster compared to what we would have hoped for on a chilly rainy night.

My fiance and I met another couple here for a double date last Friday. We made an 8pm reservation since they had nothing earlier. We arrived about 15min early and our table was already ready. The hostess invited us to hang up our coats and placed our beer into a bucket of ice. So far so good. We waited at the table for the rest of our party. It's very dark inside and a little difficult to read the menu; I was grateful I checked it out online before arriving. No one came to our table for awhile and we had to seek out a wine opener from the hostess and open ourselves- even though as we were doing so they told us they'd come and do that for us (they didn't). The appetizers were pretty good. The smoked seafood trio was good and came with a nice assortment of garnishes. The almond crusted brie was not "almond crusted," but merely brie with almonds thrown on top. It was still tasty, just not as good looking. And the escargot was escargot I suppose, I only had a little bite and that was my first experience with it. The main courses were all served with the same sides: mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, a forth of beet and a warm cabbage slaw- this is likely seasonal. Everything was reasonably good, except that my dish was cold. Very cold, not even sitting under heat lamps, but made first and just sat out cold. Which was very disappointing. (I ordered the sea scallops.) No one else had this issue, but I was the only one who didn't order a meat dish. Dessert selection was somewhat boring. Mainly different generic cakes. A friend and I shared a lemon cake which was good, but nothing special. Then we must have been there past closing, because the waitress and hostess started clearing off our table. They even took our water glasses and beer out of the bucket. We were not the only people left in the restaurant, but they appeared to be doing this to all the tables to get us to leave. It was really upsetting. Most everything had been pretty nice until this point. Once we grabbed our coats and headed out they turned the deadbolt as we shut the door. It was about 10:30pm at this point. We were still eating dessert and finishing wine when they started clearing the table.... For the money we spent, that treatment was uncalled for. We will definitely be looking for a new restaurant for our next double date.

NEW CHEF has led to absolutely phenomenal experience! My hubby and I have been going to the Inn at Phillips Mill for the past 10 years. We live in New Hope, and it has always been our first choice for a solid, romantic, delicious experience. Last night, we were WOWED by our entrees. So much so, that I actually asked the waitress if there was a new chef in the kitchen. I had never asked that question before, but every dish was beautifully prepared to perfection. Truly amazing. The waitress said, "Yes, he started last week." Well, before word gets out (and trust me it will), run -- don't walk to Phillip's Mill. This chef is superlative, and the best thing that's come to New Hope in a very long time. Thank you Inn at Phillips Mill for a wonderful evening!

Was really looking forward to this dinner! We went for a pre-Christmas family dinner. We were seated promptly and enjoyed the warm atmosphere. However, once our waitress arrived everything went downhill. She was rude rude rude!! When ordering, she told a member of our party simply "no" when he went to order his entree. We all looked at each other in confusion for a good 30 seconds before she finally stated the reason for the "no" was that that menu item was not currently available. After that, she dropped our appetizers, salads, and entrees on our table without a word. When dessert came around, she was handing my brother his requested apple tart which fell off the plate and onto the table. To our HORROR she picked it up with her hands and PLACED IT BACK ON THE PLATE AND SERVED IT. The food overall was mediocre at best, and the service was just ghastly.

After reading some of the reviews, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The good news is that the problem would seem relatively easy to fix. If you are looking for a true Bucks County experience, the ambience here cannot be beat. Farmhouse charm all the way. On the 2 occasions we have dined here the food has been nothing short of excellent. Well presented, well cooked and delicious. We usually go for beef or veal and have never been disappointed. We also had exemplary service from attentive staff. It is a BYOB so it is reasonable for the ambience and quality of food. The problem lies with the people who are responsible for seating you. They have no clue. No one will acknowledge you when you walk in and the hostess is absent for long periods of time. We had an 8:00 reservation and at 8:30 we were still standing in the foyer (with 4 other waiting couples) with no indication of when we might be seated. The real issue is that the foyer is the size of someone's hall closet and the front door and entrance to restrooms are also located in that foyer. So for 40 minutes, 8 to 10 people are shuffling around this foyer to get out of the way of people coming in and those using the restrooms. To further complicate things, servers need to walk through the foyer to get to the back dining room and kitchen. Just a nightmare. The hostess for some reason is doing 1000 different things and just doesn't communicate about table readiness to anyone waiting. She appears to be setting tables and answering the phone as well. So you stand there and stew which is no way to start out an evening. My suggestion would be that they allocate a small outdoor space for waiting diners on evenings that they may have overbooked. Further, offer to open the customers bottle of wine, this would defintely ease the wait. Better yet, take a better look at how many reservations you are booking - perhaps they need to be spaced better.

Romantic is the Word! Excellence in French Dining! I had the Pleasure to Dine on the Terrace at the Inn at Phillips Mill while visiting New Hope. Atmosphere is a Rustic 1700's Barn turned Inn. Location: BEAUTIFUL! Service: EXCELLENT! FOOD: EXCELLENT! I can't wait to come back to Stay a couple of nights when the leaves turn, and the fireplace is stoked! What makes this the best, is the fact it's one of the few restaurants in the area that's a BYOB!! We Started off with the Trio de Poissons Fumes, Creme Fraiche, a l Aneth (Trio of Smoked Seafood, Dill Creme Fraiche), (EXCELLENT), then warm French Bread. My Date had Filet de Porc Braise aux Figues et a la Creme (Braised Pork Tenderloin, Mission Figs Creme), Tender, Juicy, Not Too Sweet, Cooked to perfection! I had the obvious, Blanc de Canard et sa Cuisse Confite au Jus (Breast of Duck, Leg Confit au Ju), Crispy, not Greasy, Duck Confit, PERFECTLY COOKED! We shared a Bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon I received from a friend! To Finish, Les Desserts was Creme Brulee. Perfect, Not Too Sweet, Creamy with a Crunchy, not burned, top! What makes this restaurant extremely attractive is it's VALUE!!! It's actually less expensive than restaurants in town! The 5 rooms they offer are cozy as well as the public room and fireplaces. The rooms are very reasonable also! This is a Must when looking for a Romantic Weekend. Plenty of Art, Museums, Walking trails, Wineries, Breweries, and Shopping in Nearby New Hope, and Lambertville! Can't wait to come back! Chef G

We just returned from dinner at Phillip's Mill. We've eaten here many times and it is consistently excellent. The service is professional and paced to suit the party (leisurely, in our case, tonight). The menu features too many good choices to stomach in one sitting. The salads (Caesar, house and spinach) were very good and the Brie, clam and crab appetizers won raves from our party. For entrees, we enjoyed the salmon, the lamb chops and the scallops. The rack of wild boar special was a little tough. We tried several desserts and all were good, but none outstanding. BYOB policy keeps the price down (about $100 per couple). Overall, a great place for a special occasion or a non-special one.

This restaurant is absolutely stunning. Although it has a rather offsetting entrance, the moment one walks through the door the staff and ambiance do wonders for putting one at ease. The atmosphere is amazing. The dining rooms are all wonderfully appointed and are also candle lit, giving the rooms a romantic and warm glow. Faced with this one is automatically comforted and put at ease. It also didn't hurt that my boyfriend and I were seated directly next to a very charming fireplace. The waitstaff is animated and very eager to please. Our waitress was very easy going and friendly and had an amazing ability to make dishes that I would normally have no interest in seem mouthwateringly irresistible. We were seated immediately despite the fact that we did not make reservations beforehand. The restaurant was still pleasantly full despite the fact that we went during New Hope's slow season. I would suggest making reservations during New Hope's peak season, as I believe seating would otherwise be impossible to come by. For starters my boyfriend and I ordered an almond encrusted brie along with escargot stuffed into a puff pastry and made with a very tasty butter and herb sauce. The brie was perfect in both taste and visual appearance. The escargot in puff pastry was also marvelously plated and extremely delicious. The escargot was perfectly cooked; it was tender and expertly avoided being "squelchy" or rubbery. Our entrees were even better than our appetizers. My boyfriend ordered a dry rubbed angus steak which was cooked just as my boyfriend ordered it. The steak was obviously pan seared before being cooked (to perfection!) in an oven. The steak was covered in a sweet red wine reduction, which accented the flavor of the steak perfectly. The taste is indescribable except if you use the words "awesome," "amazing," and "perfect." I ordered the veal medallions. My veal was succulent and, again, perfectly cooked. It was topped with a sweet almond sauce which went very well with the flavor of the veal. Both of our entrees were served with seasonal vegetables which were cooked to perfection. The plating on every one of our dishes was magnificent to behold. They say that the first bite is taken with the eyes and the chef seams to have taken this very much to heart as our dishes looked (and smelled!) mouthwatering. This restaurant absolutely shone when it came time for desert. If you find yourself at this restaurant do yourself a favor and order the creme brulee. The top was caramelized beautifully as well as being served in the most adorable pig shaped ramekin I've ever laid eyes on. The sugar that was used to caramelize the top made for absolutely the best tasting caramel I've ever had on a creme brulee. There was a heavy lemon kick to the dessert as well, waking up the dessert with a most pleasant kick. This is without a doubt the best creme brulee I've ever had the good fortune to experience. The Inn at Phillips Mill is BYOB. I would highly suggest that one do so, as there are always a very limited selection of beverages otherwise. When my boyfriend and I were there the only options were sparkling water or iced tea. The iced tea was very delicious though. The bottom line is that this is the most romantic restaurant I've ever gone to. From the cozy atmosphere to the delicious food this place can NOT be beat. My boyfriend said that it was even more relaxing than being in our own home, it is THAT relaxing. Absolutely amazing. If you are looking for a little romantic getaway this is the best option around. That said, please do not bring your children. This is a romantic restaurant, not a family restaurant.

I love this inn. It's homey and old-fashioned and romantic. The rooms are each different and all charming. You can have a lovely basket delivered to your door in the morning with croissants and coffee. I have to warn you that when we stayed in Feb the coffee was pretty bad, which is my only real complaint. I like the restaurant, too. The menu is old-fashioned French food. It's not fussy or pretentious, but it can be a little heavy. The waitstaff is sweet, if a little informal for the setting. I seem to remember that many years ago, this restaurant offered a finer, more special-occasion type of experience, but I still think it's good. On a busy night, it can seem a little disorganized, but, somehow, I still get a kick out of it. It all adds to the charm for me.

SETTING: First I have to say that the building itself is gorgeous. It's an old stone mill with details that just don't exist in new construction. Each room has its own charm, with carefully curated wall art that pays omage to its old purpose. Tons of French art. The back room has a comfy sofa in front of a fire place. Really romantic. Candles galore. SERVICE: Our waitress was great. I never had to seek her assistance because she was very proactive. Total sweetheart. APPETIZER: My girlfriend started with the brie and it was delicious. It came with sliced almonds and a apricot sauce. I had mushroom soup that I would intravenously consume if given the chance. ENTREE: For an entree, I ordered the filet mignon with blue cheese butter. The steak was PERFECTLY cooked and it was seated skillfully. Nice cut of meat too. And just $29. Girlfriend had the pork tenderloin with fig, which was also amazingly prepared! Each dish came with fresh corn, sweet potato purée, string beans, and a potato wedge. Yum yum yum. DESSERT: For dessert we shared creme brûlée, which had a nice thick sugar coating on top. I knew was freshly prepared because of how nicely it cracked from my spoon.

My wife and I had stopped going to this restaurant about 2 years ago due to inconsistent quality of the dishes. We have been here about a half dozen times in total. Our recent experience was a pleasant surprise. Every dish appetizer through entree was very good, cooked perfectly, and presented well. Service was prompt but not rushed. The atmosphere was perfect for a french restaurant. The deserts were maybe the weak point although we only shared one. Overall it was a very good experience and we will be back.

Tonight we were fortunate to share a dining experience at The Inn at Phillip's Mill with my parents. We brought wine from Alba Vineyards. The Chamborcin and Pinot Noirs paired well with our entrees of pork, lamb, veal and filet mignon tips. The vegetables are among the best ever! I'm not one to rave about veggies, but these are obviously from a local farm. The house salad with citrus dressing is wonderful. The veggies on the side of entrees are also wonderful. We were warmly welcomed and the ambience is cozy. I would also love to stay here. Can't wait to return! The perfect day is visiting the Alba Vineyard in NJ and then having dinner at The Inn at Phillip's Mill.

Favorite spot in the country to spend a couple hours lost in dinner. Outstanding food and service. Enchanting surrounds. 250+ year old former grist mill nestled on the Deleware River in Bucks County, PA. BYOB and cash only. Stop for wine in Lambertville on the way. May even want to stop at the Boat House in Lambertville for a pre-dinner cocktail.
